The sun doesn’t shine every day in California,
But it does most of the time.
It’s true we have an expansive shoreline,
But the water isn’t always clean.

Miles and miles of highways connect us with the rest of the US body,
So we aren’t our own world.
Traffic clouds the air from the ground and our birds are mostly steal cruising in the sky.
So we aren’t in heaven.

Ads sell a peaceful trip to your “some where else,”
But this greener pasture includes LA.
Of which, the one million something population is far more chaotic than even the police can control.
The LA riots proved this so.
The country life that used to be here, has already set sail so its’ “some where else”
Possibly with the fishermen who net a good helping of fish and lost-at-sea soda cans.

But this is just the image advertised of So Cali alone,
I am from the north and there’s no place like home.
The beautiful coast line traveled by soon to be campers along highway 101.
Even the salmon come here to spawn.
The wildlife is more alive and multiplying one by one.

So all this scenery attracts….advertisers of a different kind.

They say you’ll go hiking and never see a road,
You will stay there for weeks and never want to go home.
Until you get tired of the revving chains saw noises the thud of trees, and seeing another “California” being developed into the next vacationers ease.

The truth is, all of California is a well-traveled land;
by those who wish for better than what they had.
Nothing ever slows down; not even outside of the cities.
So its safe to say the only thing faster than a New York minute is a California minute which makes who ever coined the phrase look like they were born five minutes ago.

Planes are promptly departing every 30 min. from LAX before the hours of 3 am and after 5 am; the rare non-commuter hours when the airport is closed down.
Not even the Sabbath can keep employees from pumping out fast-food 24/7 to the on-the-go employees of pulsing corporate operations that flow through here.
All of them operating for the man trying to make the quick buck so he can pay the dwindling Bourgeoisie, who inhabit a reality, not the vacationers dream.

But who is to complain?

Not the tourists! Cheap thrills are sure as the sunshine.
California can feed delights of all kinds!
From Disneyland to 50 buck one night stands.
Either way we’ll get business, because cows wandering to greener pastures is as good as promised.
Each heifer trying to get a piece of that ‘real California cheese’ is nothing short of fallowing their dreams, to a place that is not a paradise island.

In fact, California is a very real place, not an island at all.
It is still a part of the mainland of America, one of the forty-eight contiguous states.
Subject to the same laws and real life as everyone else.

The grass is not any greener on the other side.
But at least the sun shines.
Just not as bright as advertised.
